New Port Terminal of Porto Empedocle

In order to improve the accessibility and attractiveness of the site, the Port System Authority of the Sea of ​​Western Sicily has contracted out the design of a new Port Terminal and has decided to equip the new car park, which represents an interchange node between land transport systems and the maritime transport system, of a photovoltaic shelter with charging stations for electric cars and cell phone charging area, wifi area, display for traveler information. In addition, parking lots were organized, with pedestrian and cycle paths, green areas and lighting, providing for the installation of a roofing structure for photovoltaic parking spaces with an energy storage system and LED lighting for the entire area. The design activity was carried out in coordination with the port offices, collecting constraints and needs to transform them into a project that was technologically advanced but at the same time easy to manage and maintain. The work was done together with the architectural firm involved, thus moving the plant design into an “integrated” design that would therefore take into account the structural, architectural and design requirements that the concept envisaged.
