RhOME for denCity, a team of students, researchers and professors of the Department of Architecture of University Roma Tre, won the 2014 edition of Solar Decathlon Europe, the worldwide Olympics of green Architecture that took place at Versailles, where 20 Universities from 16 countries from 3 different continents competed one another.

The coordinator of the work of 40 students and their professors that participated at Rhome for DenCity is Chiara Tonelli, architect and project manager, a bronze medal winner of the 2012 edition of Solar Decathlon of Madrid with the project Medinitaly.

Special Award for Lighting Design to the project of Marco Frascarolo, that developed the lighting for RhOME, at both levels of natural and artificial light, to optimize the conditions of comfort and energetic savings in day and night. The commune design element of natural and artificial light is the will to have a dynamic and stimulating lighting through the appropriate distribution of glass surfaces and artificial light sources.

The Indoor Lighting Design: In the indoor environments, the basic module that uses LED technology from which all the devices were generated – floor, suspension, linear modular system for ceiling installation – is a double-coated aluminum profile coupled with the two dominant colors of the house (white and red). The system is characterized by a high flexibility of use, due to the easy disassembly of the structural components (through the use of screws, which allow recycle, excluding the use of adhesives, and an easy assembly and disassembly of the elements) and electrical (through the modular system of interconnection of Collego® circuits).

Thanks to the multiply positions of the light and the different possibilities of turning on these luminaires, it is possible to obtain both direct light therefore functional and indirect therefore wider spread light, as well as obtaining more decorative lights, with minor luminous fluxes (as the case of the vertical light on the floor lamp). This way the luminaires can illuminate the entire environment, they are particularly adapted to high ceiling rooms (as RhOME for denCity), and allow to make the most from the indirect light

The Outdoor Lighting Design: In RhOME, the forms of the greensunflower become essentials and elegant, with soft curves that recall the tendency of the petals and leaves, with frosted and translucent materials, by desaturated colors or with natural prints.  photovoltaic system housed in the greensunflower, accumulates energy in the batteries and regulates the luminous flux lowering it gradually according to the state of charge. In this way it prevents a sudden shutdown of the unit, the light output will gradually become lower until exhaustion, increasing the battery life up to 5 hours.
